Burnished Finish
No-Exposure Industrial Look Floors
A Burnished Finish is the ultimate choice for those who want a sleek, modern floor with zero aggregate (stone) exposure. Unlike other methods that grind away the top layer.
Finishes
- Matt Burnish: A flat, completely raw industrial look with zero reflection, highlighting the natural color shifts and trowel lines of the concrete.
- Satin to Semi-Gloss Burnish: A clean, smooth sheen that softly catches ambient light from windows without creating a sharp glare.
- High-Gloss Burnish: Maximum shine achieved by tightly buffing and chemically densifying the hard surface paste into a deep, reflective, glass-like gloss.
The Reality of Burnished Polishing
There is a common misconception that a burnished finish is just a quick clean and seal after the helicopter trowel is done. It isn’t. There is a massive difference in how this is done.
Critical Requirements & Slab Quality
Because we are not grinding the floor to fix mistakes, the quality of the finish depends entirely on the initial pour.
- The Slab Requirement: The concrete must have been highly flat, machine-troweled (helicopter finished), and burnt tight by the concreter when it was originally poured.
- Renovation Constraints: If a floor has old tile glues, heavy deep stains, or rain-damaged scaling, it cannot be burnished without exposing stone.
Burnished Concrete Right For You?
If you love the look of raw, industrial concrete and appreciate natural imperfections and tonal shifts, a burnished floor is a masterpiece. However, if you are looking for a perfectly uniform, plain grey floor, we recommend discussing a Salt & Pepper finish. Not sure if a burnished look is right for you?
